Thumbs up to AOK Davao!

7 Oct

I left Manila mid-morning to catch a flight to Davao — not to trek Apo or sample the sands, unfortunately — but for something hardly touristy. I am off to Davao to spend some time with one of the Autism Society Philippines’ older chapters. We are holding an orientation for new members and volunteers; and having a dialogue with government on the latest developments and benefits for families who live with autism.

My trip to Mindanao has been effortless so far. Aside from the two seconds I spent pondering on whether to join the in-flight games, I slept like a baby on my Cebu Pacific flight from Manila. My luggage rolled out of baggage claim first. More wonderful still, we landed a glorious fifteen minutes ahead of schedule!

It took 30 minutes on a taxi to get to The Apo View Hotel, a familiar landmark on Davao’s citiscape. Back in my days in PLDT’s provincial operations, I remember holding many a corporate events here. Now run by Eurotel, the hotel still offers the same delightful service I recollect. The colors on the bed footer of my well-appointed bedroom welcomed me to Mindanao.

I worked on a couple of projects this afternoon and had an early dinner. I am thankful for the opportunity for some “quiet time”, as tomorrow will be a full day. I look forward to a productive day with Davao’s autism advocacy community.
